De Wereld van Witte de With

The second weekend of September is highlighted by the Wereld van de Witte de With in Rotterdam. This 3-day festival claims the streets for young national and international artists.

The Festival

Art seeks interaction during the Wereld van de Witte de With. Interaction with buildings, the street, inside and in public space, between the audience and the artist! For three days the Wereld van de Witte de With brings art by artists of all disciplines.

De Wereld van Witte de With festival aims to take festival-goers beyond the limitations of passively experiencing the city. Viewers become participants. De Wereld van Witte de With amazes, surprises and wrong-foots visitors, encouraging them to look at their environment with fresh eyes. The projects presented offer creative and alternative solutions to social issues, going far further than the conventions of architecture and urban design. And Witte de Withstraat is the ideal location for such inspiring projects. It’s the most vibrant street in the city – and the nexus of the city’s dynamic cultural life. All this is captured by the festival agenda, which gives people a chance to take the initiative and take action for the common good.

Volunteers!

Every year in September the Wereld van Witte de With turns the street completely upside down. For three days the street closes for traffic and transforms into an art festival. This can only be possible with the help of a dedicated  team of volunteers.

Building
As a member of the building crew you take part in the construction of the festival and work together with an (inter)national artist to realize his project.

Public assistance
During the festival we are looking for friendly people that like helping the festival visitors get around. This includes informing visitors, ticket sales and helping out (inter)national artists with their projects.

Bar
For the bar we are looking for spontaneous experienced people that can create a lively atmosphere.

The festival takes place on 14,15 & 16 September. When you want to help out as a volunteer, you’re  preferably available for three days in the period from 10 to 17 September.  In return you will be taken care of by us, providing you with a festival T-shirt, food, drinks and of course a party!

If you are interested in joining our team of volunteers, please send an e-mail with your data, preferred position and availability to Wendy Wolf at wendy@festivalwww.nl. We will get back to you as soon as possible.

The Street - Live!

In his work, Lukas Feireiss (Germany, 1977), artist, curator, writer and lecturer, explores critical yet playful ways of utilising space. By means of sharp-witted, artistic interventions in which everyone can participate, he draws attention to the role and position of the street in contemporary discourse, drawing inspiration from topical events on the world stage such as the Arab Spring where the street – or more accurately the square – was the site of creating a new society, as well as the financial crisis symbolized by the collapse of Wall Street. And the question at the root of his work is: what can we contribute to a better society? Here, Feireiss’ departure point is ‘social sculpture’, the theory formulated by German Conceptual artist Joseph Beuys, which asserts that every individual is responsible for the quality of the society in which he or she lives
