This year Foundation De Loodsen programmes a rich programme together with Hidde van Schie (NL) and Lukas Feireiss (DE) with as theme Strange Encounters -  The Victory of the Bottom-up Approach. The city is a dynamic space that offers opportunities for creative and alternative solutions beyond convention in architecture and urban planning. By adapting or manipulating existing situations the artists research new ways to fully utilize the potential the the urban environment has to offer. Not through top-down strategies, but especially by doing it bottom up. With the introduction of new technologies like social media a shift in power has occured towards the user. Artists indent on the theme by developing all sorts of initiatives on a public level making use of lots of own time and means. These initiatives are made more visible than ever before through social media. The artists ask the audience and themselves 'of whom is the public space?'. The invited artists challenge the audience by putting an unexpected and unusual experience out on the streets. The 12th edition of World of Witte de With is an ode to the Do It Yourself-mentality.
